Now this is an example of why notes is sometimes perceived as strange and ridiculous

The simple and straightforward solution to this problem is to use relative URLs:

com.ibm.notes.RelativeNotesURL="db.nsf/viewname" (for example)

which refers to the database called db.nsf on the same server and in the same directory as the database housing the composite application.

Everything will then be very simple, put all the databases that make up an application into the same directory and any number of instances can be supported just by using a directory for each. I can copy the databases in one of these directories and get new application instance that just works - which is what any reasonable person would expect.

Surely this option just has to be available.
